0 dB/octave (flat)
White White noise
White noise has equal energy at every frequency, a flat spectrum. It sounds bright and hissy, like radio static, and is a strong masker of sudden sounds.
What the evidence says
White noise can mask disruptive sounds, but reviews of white noise for improving sleep are mixed and some caution against continuous high levels.
White noise is not automatically better for sleep than a warmer colour; it is simply flatter and brighter. We keep levels moderate and show the flat spectrum.
How we measure it
Synthesized to a flat spectrum and confirmed by FFT to sit near 0 dB per octave.
